|rules=You summon a creature that appears in unoccupied space that you can see within range. There are some restrictions as to what creature you can summon:
* The type of creature that you can summon is: {{srd5lc|Beast}}s, {{srd5lc|Dragon}}s, {{srd5lc|Monstrosity|monstrosities}}, {{srd5lc|Ooze}}s, {{srd5lc|Plant}}s, or {{srd5lc|Swarm}}s.
* The creature's {{SRD5|Intelligence}} score must be lower than your own.
* The creature summoned must be within 1 mile of you and on the same {{srd5lc|Plane}} as you.<ref group="notes" name="plane" /> You may specify a specific species of creature, but if it is not within range the GM chooses which species of creature will be summoned (usually of the same {{srd5lc|Monster Type}}).
* The {{srd5lc|Challenge Rating}} of the creature must be [[:Category:5e CR 1/8 Monsters|1/8]] or lower. This level increases with your level.

The summoned creature is friendly to you and your companions (creatures that are {{srd5lc|Immune}} to the {{srd5lc|Charmed}} effect may not be summoned). Roll {{srd5lc|Initiative}} for the summoned creature, which has its own {{srd5lc|Turn}}s. It obeys any verbal commands that you issue to it (no {{srd5lc|Action}} required by you). If you don’t issue any commands to it, it defends itself from hostile creatures, but otherwise take no actions.

The {{SRD5|GM}} has the creature's statistics and determines what creatures are in the area.

If you loose {{srd5lc|Concentration}}, the creature no longer follows your commands, may no longer be friendly toward you and your companions.<ref group="notes" name="nocharm" />
|higherlevels=This type and number of creatures that may be summoned increases when you reach certain levels:<br /> 5th level - [[:Category:5e CR 1/4 Monsters|CR 1/4]] or lower, add types {{srd5lc|Aberration}} and {{srd5lc|Construct}}.<br />
11th level - add types {{srd5lc|Elemental}}s, {{srd5lc|Fey}} and {{srd5lc|Undead}} to creatures that may be summoned. Increase number of creatures summoned to 2.<br />
