To make a saving throw, roll a d20 and add the appropriate [[SRD5:Ability Modifier|ability modifier]]. For example, you use your [[SRD5:Dexterity|Dexterity]] modifier for a Dexterity saving throw.

A saving throw can be modified by a situational bonus or penalty and can be affected by advantage and disadvantage, as determined by the [[SRD5:GM|GM]].

Each [[SRD5:Class|class]] gives proficiency in at least two saving throws. The {{srd5lc|wizard}}, for example, is [[SRD5:Proficiency|proficient]] in [[SRD5:Intelligence|Intelligence]] saves.
