Shapechange. Araneas' natural form is that of a Medium size spider with small arms, ending in hands, below its mandibles. They can use an bonus action to polymorph into a Medium spider, into a Small or Medium humanoid, or return to its true form. It can remain in any of these forms indefinitely. The aranea reverts to its natural form when killed.
In its true form, the aranea can cast spells, use its bite and web attacks, but cannot use weapons. It can however manipulate light objects (of 10 pounds or less). In humanoid form, the aranea can use weapons, cast spells, and wear armor, but it loses its climb speed, its Spider Climb trait, bite, and web attacks. However, armor, clothing, and weapons do not appear as part of the transformation. In spider form, it cannot talk or cast spells. However, it gains +1 to strength and dexterity. Spellcasting (True or Humanoid Form Only). The aranea is an 4th-level sorcerer. Its spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 12, +4 to hit with spell attacks). It has the following sorcerer spells prepared, which it can cast requiring no material components: Spider Climb (True and Spider Form Only). The spider climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on celings, without needing to make an ability check. Web Sense (True and Spider Form Only). While in contract with a web, the aranea knows the exact location of any other creature in contact with the same web. Web Walker (True and Spider Form Only). The aranea ignores movement restrictions caused by webbing. ActionsBite (Spider or True Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +2 (+3 in spider form) to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 6 (1d10) piercing damage or 7 (1d10+1) piercing damage in spider form, and the target must make a DC Constitution saving throw or take 11 (2d10) poison damage and be poisoned for 1 minute. This save may be repeated at the end of each of the target's turn ending the condition on a successful save. Dagger (Humanoid Form Only). Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one creature. Hit: 2 (1d4) piercing damage. Web (Spider or True Form Only). Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 (+5 in spider form) to hit, range 60 ft., one creature. Hit: The target is restrained by webbing. As an action, the restrained creature can make a DC 12 Strength check to escape. The webbing has AC 13, and another creature can deal 5 fire or slashing damage to the webbing to end this effect; if fire damage is used, the restrained creature also takes the damage. |
