Unofficial Description: Warlocks are individuals that have formed a pact with an magically powerful patron (ex. angels, archfey, demons, devils, hags, and Far Realms beings). The pact provides them with magical power for unspecified service (and sometimes more).

Becoming a Warlock

As a Level 1 Character

As a Multiclass Character

  • Gain the following traits from the Core Warlock Traits table: Hit Point Die and training with Light armor.
  • Gain the Warlock’s level 1 features, which are listed in the Warlock Features table. See the multiclassing rules in chapter 2 to determine your available spell slots.

Eldritch Invocations

Unofficial Summary: Magical abilities that are provided through the power of the Warlock's patron. Some invocations have prerequisites, attaining a certain Warlock level, or other invocation for example. You cannot take the invocation if you do not meet the prerequisite. When you gain a Warlock level, you can replace an invocation with another (as long as it is not a prerequisite for another invocation you have). See the Warlock Features table for the number of invocations available at a given level. You can't repeat an invocation unless indicated in the text of the invocation.

Pact Magic

Unofficial Summary: Through your pact with your patron, you have gained the ability to cast Spells from the Warlock Spell list. (see Spellcasting rules).

  • Cantrips. You know a number of Cantrips as shown on the Warlock Features table (this increases with Warlock levels). When you gain a Warlock level, you can also exchange one cantrip you know for another.
  • Spell Slots. You have a number of Spell Slots to cast level 1-5 spells. The Warlock Features table shows how many slots and the level of the spell slots. These recover when you finish a Short and Long Rest.
  • Prepared Spells of Level 1+. The Warlock Features table for the number of spells you have prepared. You can only cast spells you have prepared using spell slots. When you gain a Warlock level, you can exchange one spell you have prepared for different spell. If another feature allows you to cast a spell, it does not count toward this limit.
  • Spellcasting Ability. Charisma is the Spellcasting Ability.
  • Spellcasting Focus. Arcane Focus as the Spellcasting Focus.

Magical Cunning

Unofficial Summary: Once per Long Rest, you can perform a rite that takes 1 Minute to recover Half your maximum Pact Magic spell slots.

Warlock Subclass

Contact Patron

Unofficial Summary: You always have the Contact Other Plane spell prepared. You can use it once per Long Rest to contact your Patron without spending a spell slot (cast this way, you automatically succeed on the saving throw).

Mystic Arcanum

11th, 13th, 15th, 17th level [1][2] 
Unofficial Summary: Your patron grants you an arcanum, the ability to cast a spell of level 6+ without expending a spell slot once per Long Rest. As your progress in your Warlock levels, you gain access to more powerful arcanum. You can cast each arcanum once per Long Rest without expending spell slots. When you gain a Warlock level, you can replace one arcanum for another of the same level.

Epic Boon

Unofficial Summary: You gain a feat, an Epic Boon or other feat.

Eldritch Master
