Design Note: Battle Master Updates Here are the main updates in this subclass since the 2014 Player’s Handbook:

  • Student of War now also gives you proficiency in a skill.
  • Know Your Enemy now allows you to know a creature’s damage resistances, immunities, and vulnerabilities as a Bonus Action.
  • Relentless now allows you to use a Maneuver once per turn without expending a Superiority Die, but that free Maneuver uses a d8.

Battle Master is a battle master of the Fighter class.

This martial path focuses on maneuvers.

Subclass Features

Combat Superiority

3rd, 7th, 10th, and 15th Feature
Summary: You gain a number of Superiority Die and Maneuvers. The Superiority Dice are used to empower your maneuvers, and the maneuvers are used to enhance your attacks. You learn more maneuvers at 7th, 10th, and 15th levels. You gain more Superiority dice at 7th and 15th levels, as well as shifting up the die type at 10th and 18th levels. 

Student of War

3rd Feature
Summary: Gain proficiency with Artisan's Tools and an additional skill

Know Your Enemy

10th Feature
Summary: Once per Long Rest, as a Bonus Action, know damage immunities, resistances, and vulnerabilities of a nearby creature. You can gain an extra use of this feature by expending a Superiority Die

Improved Combat Superiority

10th Feature
Summary: Superiority Dice shift up in die type. 

Relentless

15th Feature
Summary: Once a turn, can can use a Superiority Die without expending it by shifting it down to a d8. 

Ultimate Combat Superiority

18th Feature
Summary: Superiority Dice shift up (again) in die type.
