Design Note: Beast Master Updates
[1] Here are the main updates in this subclass since the 2014 Player's Handbook (5e):
- Primal Companion returns from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, which was well received.
- Exceptional Training now allows you to command your beast to use its Bonus Action to take the Dash, Disengage, Dodge, or Help action, and the beast’s attacks ignore damage resistance.
- Bestial Fury now allows your beast to benefit from your Hunter’s Mark spell
Beast Master [1] subclass (pointer)
Beast Master is a subclass of the Ranger class.
Unofficial Description: This ranger subclass forms a special bond with a beast, utilizing Primal power.

Subclass Features
Primal Companion
3rd Feature
Summary: You summon a Beast of the Land, Beast of the Sea, or Beast of the Sky. You can use your Bonus Action to have the primal beast perform an action (otherwise it uses the Dodge action).
Primal Beasts +
Exceptional Training
7th Feature
Summary: Use a Bonus Action to have your Primal Companion use a Bonus Action to Dash, Disengage, Dodge, or Help. Also the primal beast can cause Force damage instead of its normal damage type.
Bestial Fury
11th Feature
Summary: Your Primal Companion beast makes two attacks instead of one when it takes the Attack action. Once per turn, it may do bonus damage to the target of your Hunter's Mark when it hits with an attack.
14th Feature
Summary: If you target yourself with a spell, it may affect your Primal Companion.
