Design Note: Eldritch Knight Updates
Here are the main updates in this subclass since the 2014 Player’s Handbook:

  • Spellcasting contains no school-of-magic restrictions after level 3 in the subclass. Moreover, the Fighter can now change one cantrip when gaining a level, and the Fighter can use an Arcane Focus.
  • War Magic now allows you to replace one of your attacks with casting a cantrip, allowing the Eldritch Knight to weave magic into their attacks.
  • Improved War Magic now allows you to replace two of your attacks with casting a level 1 or 2 spell, allowing the Eldritch Knight to further weave magic into their attacks.

This martial path focuses equally on spells and martial prowess.

Summary: Gain spells from the Wizard's spell list as shown on the Eldritch Knight Spellcasting table. Intelligence is the spellcasting ability. Two of the spells are restricted to the Abjuration and Evocation schools. Can use an Arcane Focus.

3rd Feature
Summary: Create a magical bond with two weapons. Can use a Bonus Action to teleport one of them to the knight's hand. 

War Magic

7th Feature
Summary: May replace one of your attacks with casting a cantrip (with some restrictions). 

Eldritch Strike

10th Feature
Summary: When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, it's saves against your spells are nerfed for a few seconds. 

Arcane Charge

15th Feature
Summary: Use of the Action Surge allows the knight to teleport nearby. 

Improved War Magic

18th Feature
Summary: War Magic now allows you to replace two attacks with casting of Wizard spells with a casting time of one action.
