Design Note: Oath of Devotion Updates

[1] Here are the main updates in this subclass since its last playtest version:

  • Oath Spells has a revised list of spells. Smite spells were replaced since they’re now in the Paladin’s Smite feature.
  • Smite of Protection has moved to 15th level. In addition, it now works with all your Paladin’s Smite spells, and it provides Half Cover to you and your allies in your Aura of Protection.
  • Holy Nimbus now provides Advantage on saving throws against effects from Fiends and Undead.

Oath of Devotion[1] subclass
Oath of Devotion is a subclass of the Paladin class.

Unofficial Description: Paladins of the Oath of Devotion vow to uphold justice and order.

Tenets of Devotion

Though the exact words and strictures of the Oath of Devotion vary, Paladins of this oath share these tenets.
Honesty.
Courage.
Compassion.
Honor.
Duty.

Oath of Devotion Features

Subclass Features

Oath Spells

3rd Feature
Summary: Gain access to specific spells which may be cast a limited number of times without spending a Spell Slot. Spells gained over time are:

Protection from Evil and Good, Shield of Faith, Aid, Zone of Truth, Beacon of Hope, Dispel Magic, Freedom of Movement, Guardian of Faith, Commune, Flame Strike 

Sacred Weapon

3rd Feature
Summary: Use Bonus Action and Channel Divinity to empower weapon to do extra damage damage (normal or radiant) for a period of time. It also emits light. 

Aura of Devotion

7th Feature
Summary: Aura of Protection now provides immunity against being Charmed

Smite of Protection

15th Feature
Summary: Paladin’s Smite spells buffs your Aura of Protection to provide Half Cover until the start of your next turn

Holy Nimbus

20th Feature
Summary: Use Bonus Action to add effects to your Aura of Protection once per day (or may expend 5th-level Spell Slot to envoke).

Holy Ward. Buff to saving throws forced by Fiends or Undead.
Radiant Damage. Aura caused Radiant damage to enemies.
Sunlight. Aura is filled with sunlight (bright light)
