Design Note: Oath of Vengeance Updates

[1] Here are the main updates in this subclass since Player's Handbook (5e):

  • Oath Spells now has Compelled Duel instead of Hunter’s Mark.
  • Vow of Enmity now lets you move your vow to another creature if the previous creature was reduced to 0 hit points before the duration of the feature ends, and the feature’s range has increased.
  • Relentless Avenger can now reduce the target’s Speed to 0.
  • Abjure Enemy has been replaced by Abjure Foes in the base class.
  • Avenging Angel now uses a Bonus Action instead of an action, and its duration is now 10 minutes rather than an hour. You can also regain the use of it by expending a 5th-level spell slot

Oath of Vengeance is a subclass of the Paladin class.

Tenets of Vengeance

  • Fight the Greater Evil.
  • No Mercy for the Wicked.
  • By Any Means Necessary.
  • Restitution.

 

Subclass Features

Oath Spells

3rd Feature
Summary: Gain access to specific spells which may be cast a limited number of times without spending a Spell Slot. Spells gained over time are:
Bane, Compelled Duel, Hold Person, Misty Step, Haste, Protection from Energy, Banishment, Dimension Door, Hold Monster, Scrying 

Vow of Enmity

3rd Feature
Summary: Use a Bonus Action and Channel Divinity to buff your attack rolls against a single creature. If the target creature drops to 0 Hit Points, you can choose a different creature. 

Relentless Avenger

7th Feature
Summary: When you use a Reaction to make a successfull Opportunity Attack, the target creature's Speed drops to 0, and you can move half your Speed. 

Soul of Vengeance

15th Feature
Summary: When you use Vow of Enmity, you may also use a Reaction to make a melee attack against the target creature. 

Avenging Angel

20th Feature
Summary: Once per Long Rest, use a Bonus Action to buff your Aura of Protection with the following benefits:

You can also spend a 5th-level spell slot to gain another use of this feature.
