Design Note: Swashbuckler Updates

[1] Here are the main updates in this subclass since its appearance in Xanathar's Guide to Everything (5e):

  • Panache has been redesigned to apply its effects through Cunning Strike.
  • Dashing Strikes replaces Elegant Maneuver at 13th level and gives you additional Cunning Strike options.
  • Master Duelist has been redesigned to allow you to make an additional attack, provided you meet the requirements.

Swashbuckler[1] subclass (pointer)
Swashbuckler is a subclass of the Rogue class.

These Rogues focus on dueling and stylized attack.

Swashbuckler Features

Subclass Features

Fancy Footwork

3rd level Feature
Summary: Creatures you strike with a melee attack can't make Opportunity Attacks against you that turn

Rakish Audacity

3rd level Feature
Summary: Buff to Initiative rolls. Also, you don't need Advantage for Sneak Attack

Panache

9th Feature
Summary: Gain new Cunning Strike options:

  • Goad (Cost: 1d6). Target has Disadvantage on attack rolls against targets other than you, and cannot attack you with an Opportunity Attack.
  • Awe (Cost: 3d6). Creatures within range become Charmed for a round (Wisdom save to avoid). 

Dashing Strikes

13th Feature
Summary: Gain new Cunning Strike options:

  • Parrying Stance (Cost: 2d6). Gain buff to AC.
  • Invigorate (Cost: 2d6). Chosen creature within range gains a buff to attack rolls and saving throws for it's next turn. 

Master Duelist

17th Feature
Summary: Sneak Attack grants a bonus attack against the same target (if you are next to it).
