Creating a Paladin

[1] Class Group: Priests
Primary Ability: Strength, Charisma
To create a Paladin, consult the following lists, which provide Hit Points, Proficiencies, and Armor Training. If you’re making a 1st-level character, also consult the “Starting Equipment” section, and if you’re using the multiclassing rules, see the “Multiclassing and the Paladin” section.

Then look at the Paladin table to see the Class Features you get at each level in this Class. The descriptions of those features appear in the “Paladin Class Features” section.

Hit Points

Hit Dice: 1d10 per Paladin level
Hit Points at 1st Level: 10 + your Constitution modifier
Hit Points per Level after 1st: 1d10 (or 6) + your Constitution modifier

Proficiencies

Saving Throws: Wisdom, Charisma.
Skills: Choose 2 from Athletics, Insight, Intimidation, Medicine, Persuasion, Religion.
Weapons: Simple Weapons, Martial Weapons
Tools:

Armor Training

Light Armor, Medium Armor, Heavy Armor, Shields

Starting Equipment

As a 1st-level character, you start with the following equipment, or you can forgo it and spend 150 GP on equipment of your choice. Chain Mail (Holy Symbol), Javelin (6), Longsword, Priest's Pack, Shield, 9 GP

Multiclassing and the Paladin

If your group uses the multiclassing rules in the Player's Handbook, here’s what you need to know if you choose Paladin as one of your Classes.
  Ability Score Minimum. 13+ Strength and Charisma
  Proficiencies. Martial Weapons
  Armor Training. Light Armor, Medium Armor, and Shields.
  Spell Slots. Add half your Paladin levels (rounded up)



Paladin Class Features

As a Paladin, you gain the following Class Features when you reach the specified levels in this Class. These features are listed on the Paladin table.

Lay on Hands

1st level
Summary: You can heal creatures with a touch, or remove the Poisoned condition.

Spellcasting

1st level
Summary: You gain divine spells.

Prepared Spells.
Spell Slots.
Spellcasting Ability. Charisma
Spellcasting Focus. Holy Symbol

Divine Smite

2nd Level
Summary: May spend a spell slot do do extra radiant damage on a weapon attack or Unarmed Strike on your turn.

Fighting Style

2nd Level
Summary: You gain the Defense feat or another Fighting Style feat of your choice.

Channel Divinity

3rd Level
Summary: You can channel divine power a limited number of times a day (see Paladin Table).

Divine Sense. Summary sense nearby Celestials, Fiends, Undead, and consecrated (or desecrated) objects for a limited time.

Design Note: Uses of Channel Divine/Nature

[1] Summary: The Channel Divinity of the Cleric from UA 2022 Cleric and Revised Species was deemed overpowered when multiclassing. The Druid and Paladin uses in UA 2023 Druid and Paladin has the number of uses reduced. Future itenerations of the Cleric will have the uses similarly reduced.

Paladin Subclass

3rd Level (features at 3rd, 6th, 10th, 14th)
Summary: You choose a Paladin subclass. Features are granted at 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 14th level.

Feat

4th Level
Summary: You gain a feat (Ability Score Improvement or another).

Extra Attack

5th Level
Summary: Make two attacks when you use the Attack action.

Faithful Steed

5th Level
Summary: You know and can cast the Find Steed spell without spending a spell slot.

Aura of Protection

7th Level
Summary: You project an aura in a 10 foot sphere. Allies within the aura gain a bonus to saving throws.

Abjure Foes

9th Level
Summary: You can use Channel Divinity to cause a number of nearby creatures to become Dazed and Frightened for 1 minute (Wisdom save to avoid).

Radiant Strikes

11th Level
Summary: Your weapon attacks do extra radiant damage. (This may be combined with Divine Smite)

Aura of Courage

13th Level
Summary: Your Aura of Protection also guards creatures against being Frightened.

Restoring Touch

15th Level
Summary: Lay on Hands can be used to remove the Blinded, Charmed, Dazed, Deafened, Frightened, Paralyzed, or Stunned conditions.

Aura Expansion

17th Level
Summary: Aura of Protection radius is increased.

Divine Conduit

18th Level
Summary: Regain a use of Channel Divinity when you roll Initiative.

Epic Boon

20th Level
Summary: Gain:

Ability Score Increase.
Epic Boon Feat. Epic Boon of Truesight or another.

Design Note: Epic Boon Feature

[1] Summary: Epic Boons were determined to be underpowered. The epic boons for Druid and Paladin more powerful and adds Ability Score Increase. Epic boons for other classes will be revised similarly.
