Features

Spellcasting. The ingester is an innate spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 13, +5 to hit with spell attacks). It can cast the following spells requiring no material components^[2]:

At Will: fire bolt, mind sliver, minor illusion, prestidigitation

4/Day (total): charm person, magic missile

3/Day (total): invisibility, spider climb

2/Day (total): fireball, lightning bolt

Actions

Multiattack. The ingester makes two Claw attacks or casts one spell.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8+3) slashing damage.

Longevity. The ingester's lifespan can increase to three times its normal length.

Bonus Actions

Bonus Spell. The ingester can cast one at-will spell as a bonus action.

An ordinary dragonflesh grafter is a hulking monstrosity that slowly looses its original personality. Dragonbone ingesters have taken to ingesting powdered dragonbone (as part of a magical ritual) in an attempt to avoid the worst side-effects of dragonflesh grafting while still gaining benefit from it. While the practice is far from safe, it results in a more stable mutation than the standard dragonflesh grafting.

One of the downsides to this method is that the powdered dragonbone is addictive. The ritual must be repeated once a year or the ingester will have an uncontrollable desire to become one with a dragon by finding one and offer itself as a meal to it. And worse, the more times the ingester repeats the ritual, the more often it will need to be performed. If an ingester lives long enough, it will need to perform the ritual daily. <ref name="rly2021-11-21">
